Is July a good time to visit Kamakura?

Generally speaking, July is not a perfect time to visit Kamakura. Here are some reasons. Firstly, Kamakura in the first half of July still experiences the rainy season, not ideal for outdoor activities. Secondly, although the rainfall tends to fade out in the second half, heat is a big obstacle for visitors, especially at noon. Thirdly, Japanese schools start their summer vacation. Therefore, many local people also travel around during this period, leading to higher hotel costs and more crowded sightseeing spots.

However, if you are available only in July, mid to late July is a relatively OK choice. At this time, the rainfall decreases sharply, which is more suitable for outdoor exploration. Moreover, events like the Fireworks Festival provide you with an opportunity to experience Japanese summer.
